The cool freshness of the sauce complements the heavy, meaty flavors in gyros so well! And the best part? This sauce is ready in as little as 10 minutes!
For the best sauce, use rich, high-quality Greek yogurt, plenty of garlic, and some salt and pepper.
It’s also important to squeeze the excess water out of your cucumber before adding it. If you don’t, the water thins out the sauce – resulting in a mixture that doesn’t combine well.
I sometimes even enjoy tzatziki sauce as a starter with pita bread or chips if I’m in the mood for something light!
2. Greek Salad
Don’t worry, this salad isn’t just some boring lettuce bowl.
In fact, it doesn’t even have a leafy green base! Instead, you’ll enjoy the freshness of delicious veggies paired with indulgent salty and crumbly feta.
Traditionally, Greek salad uses cucumber, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, red onion, olives, and mint, combined with a mustard and garlic vinaigrette.
This bright, summery salad pairs amazingly with gyros and is a super healthy treat in its own right!

3. Greek Fries
Not feeling a salad, but still wondering what goes best with gyros? I get it! Pairing your gyros with some hand-cut, Greek-style fries are sure to hit the spot.
To make it even easier for you, these fries don’t require a deep fryer. Oven-baked fries aren’t just similar in taste and texture, but they’re also healthier, cheaper, and require a lot less cleanup.
For best results, use large russet potatoes for long, skinny fries with the perfect amount of crunch!
Topping these fries with oregano, salt, pepper, fresh parsley, and crumbled feta gives them that authentic Greek flair.

5. Greek Lemon Rice Pilaf
Looking for another carb-based option? This light and bright lemon rice pilaf is such a satisfying and flavorful side dish to go for!
Greek lemon rice pilaf is one of my absolute favorites because it’s just so quick and easy.
It comes together in under half an hour, and most of that time you don’t even need to do anything other than stir once in a while! Plus, it only uses one pot and a few ingredients, making it very convenient to prepare.
To make Greek lemon rice pilaf, all you need to do is melt some butter in a pan, add rice, turmeric, lemon juice, salt, and chicken (or vegetable) broth, and cook like normal rice.
You’ll then get an amazing, yellow-colored side dish that goes perfectly with (or even in) gyros!
6. Sumac Onions
If you’re looking for a smaller side dish that comes together quickly but still packs a crazy flavor punch, try these sumac onions!
This dish is Turkish, but if sumac onions go with doner kebab, they’re guaranteed to pair well with gyros too.
Sumac onions are made through quick pickling, so you don’t need to remember to prepare them days in advance or have a massive jar taking up half your fridge.
Simply combine thinly sliced red onion with lemon juice, parsley, olive oil, ground sumac, and salt, and marinate it for five minutes before serving. How easy!
7. Greek Oven Roasted Potatoes
These potatoes are insanely crispy and coated in a Greek seasoning blend that’s simply to die for!
Roast potatoes are a classic option as a side dish for a reason — they’re perfect as they are, and everyone enjoys them.
To get the ultimate crunchy outside and soft, starchy inside, make sure to soak your potatoes for at least half an hour (and give them a good rinse) before serving. Starting with a preheated baking tray also really helps.
Pop these potatoes into the oven and bake for 40 minutes to achieve that roasted appearance and explosion of flavors. Then, enjoy this either on its own or as a gyros side!
8. Skordalia
If you prefer your potatoes mashed, why not give Skordalia a go? Although technically a dip, you can serve this Greek dish hot as a gyros side too.

All you need to do is blend together chickpeas, roasted red peppers (from a jar is fine), tahini, aquafaba or water, lemon juice, garlic, cumin, and salt in a mixer or food processor. That’s it!
Serve the hummus as a dipping sauce with your gyros or spread it inside the pita as you’re preparing it for the ultimate taste sensation.

This twist on Greek salad uses seared zucchini. Hands down, it’s the perfect light and bright side to pair with your gyros!

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Brussels sprouts when I was younger. Now, I’m mad I went so long without them!
